Antidipsogenic effects of central adenosine-5'-triphosphate BJMBR
de Faria,D.R.G.; Santana,J.S.; Menani,J.V.; de Paula,P.M..
Besides other physiological functions, adenosine-5'-triphosphate (ATP) is also a neurotransmitter that acts on purinergic receptors. In spite of the presence of purinergic receptors in forebrain areas involved with fluid-electrolyte balance, the effect of ATP on water intake has not been investigated. Therefore, we studied the effects of intracerebroventricular (icv) injections of ATP (100, 200 and 300 nmol/µL) alone or combined with DPCPX or PPADS (P1 and P2 purinergic antagonists, respectively, 25 nmol/µL) on water intake induced by water deprivation. In addition, the effect of icv ATP was also tested on water intake induced by intragastric load of 12% NaCl (2 mL/rat), acute treatment with the diuretic/natriuretic furosemide (20 mg/kg), icv angiotensin...

Grazing ecology of female lambs on Italian ryegrass plus red clover pasture under different defoliation intensities R. Bras. Zootec.
Glienke,Carine Lisete; Rocha,Marta Gomes da; Camargo,Daniele Gindri; Pötter,Luciana; Confortin,Anna Carolina Cerato; Costa,Vagner Guasso da.
The relationship between pasture dynamics and ingestive behavior of female lambs was studied on Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) plus red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) mixture under a range of defoliation intensities. Rotational grazing was used and the grazing interval was determined by the thermal sum of 313 degree days. The initial pre-grazing canopy height disappearance values were 65 (very high), 58 (high), 47 (medium) and 37% (low). The sward vertical structure was similar among defoliation intensities. The forage allowance decreased linearly as defoliation intensities increased, with 0.35 bite/minute reduction for each 1% increase in forage allowance. The bite rate and number of bites/feeding station decreased with reduced contribution of...

Mesquite pod meal in diets for lactating goats R. Bras. Zootec.
Pereira,Taiala Cristina de Jesus; Pereira,Mara Lúcia Albuquerque; Oliveira,Carlos Alberto Santana de; Argôlo,Lizziane da Silva; Silva,Herymá Giovane de Oliveira; Pedreira,Márcio dos Santos; Almeida,Paulo José Presidio; Santos,Alana Batista dos.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects inclusion of 0%, 33.3%, 66.7% and 100% natural matter (NM) of mesquite pod meal (MPM), in substitution of corn, on the intake, digestibility and feeding behavior of lactating Saanen goats. The forage:concentrate ratio in the diet was 40:60, using elephant grass silage as a forage source. Eight adult lactating goats with about 60 days in milk and weighting 50 kg were divided into two 4 × 4 latin squares and four 17-day experimental periods. Dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP) and total digestible nutrient (TDN) intakes were not influenced by MPM levels. Ether extract (0.51; 0.34; 0.36; 0.20 kg/day) and non-fiber carbohydrate (NFC) (0.54; 0.53; 0.49; 0.36 kg/day) intakes showed a linear effect with...

Nitrogen sources associated with different physical forms of corn grain in the diet for steers in feedlot Animal Sciences
Porsch, Renata Volpatto; Machado, Diego Soares; Brondani, Ivan Luiz; Cocco, Joziane Michelon; Alves Filho, Dari Celestino; Oliveira, Leonardo Mendes de.
This study evaluated the substitution of soybean meal with non-protein nitrogen sources, in combination with ground or whole corn for feedlot cattle. Fifty-four Charolais x Nellore steers with 22 ± 0.23 months and 250 ± 15.80 kg were assigned to a 3 x 2 factorial completely randomized experimental design. The treatments consisted of different combinations of concentrate formulation: soybean meal with whole or ground corn, conventional urea with whole or ground corn, and protected urea with whole or ground corn. There was interaction between nitrogen source and collection date for serum albumin, with increasing elevation for soybean meal; while there was elevation from day 0 to day 84, stabilizing until the slaughter, for urea. Higher intakes of dry matter...

Partial replacement of corn by soybean hulls in high-grain diets for feedlot sheep PAB
Homem Junior,Antonio Carlos; Nocera,Bruno Faleiros; Faleiros,Lucas Figueiredo; Almeida,Marco Túlio Costa; Paschoaloto,Josimari Regina; Perez,Henrique Leal; D’Áurea,André Pastori; Ezequiel,Jane Maria Bertocco.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the partial replacement of corn grains by soybean hulls, in high-grain diets, and its effect on the feeding behavior and ruminal fermentation parameters of feedlot sheep. Eight rumen-cannulated crossbred sheep were assigned to four treatment groups composed of a control, to fed a diet of 50% corn silage and 50% concentrate, and to three groups fed high-grain diets, as follows: 85% corn (Diet85), 75% corn plus 10% soybean hulls (Diet75), and 65% corn plus 20% soybean hulls (Diet65). High-grain diets reduced rumination time and provided a higher degradation of feed dry matter, a higher-propionic acid concentration, a lower-acetic acid concentration, a lower methane and carbon dioxide gas production, and a...
